Other important electrolytes include magnesium, potassium and calcium. In addition to electrolytes, several key vitamins that are important for energy metabolism, including vitamin B3, B5, B6, B12 and folic acid.

    Plasma magnesium concentrations decrease during prolonged, intense exercise, which may reflect redistribution from plasma to the working muscle. [6]

    Potassium

    Vitamins B6, B12 and folic acid are needed to reduce homocysteine levels. Several studies have shown an increase in plasma homocysteine in athletes after strong physical activity. [28-31]

    Ten male field-track athletes were exercised using a fixed workload treadmill test. Tests showed a consistent low value in the total percentile of vitamins B1, B2, folate, and biotin. [32]

    Supplementation with vitamin B1, B6 and B12 was been found to improve target shooting in marksmen in two different studies. [33]

    Vitamin B3 (Niacinamide)

    Vitamin B3 is a constituent of the coenzymes, nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NAD) and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide phosphate (NADP), which are required for energy metabolism.

    Vitamin B5 (Pantothenate)

    Vitamin B5 is involved in the Kreb's cycle of energy production and is essential in producing, transporting, and releasing energy from fats. Pantothenic acid also activates the adrenal glands. [34]

    One study showed that a mixture of propionyl-L-carnitine (PLC), coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), nicotinamide (NAM), riboflavin and pantothenic acid improved motor performance of skeletal, cardiac and smooth muscle in rats. [35]

    Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine)

    The metabolically active coenzyme form pyridoxal 5' phosphate (PLP) is required for protein and fat metabolism, and glycogen phosphorylase to release glucose from muscle glycogen (stored carbohydrates).

    Vitamin B6 is needed to reduce homocysteine levels, which may become elevated after strenuous levels.

    Vitamin B12 (Cobalamin)

    Vitamin B12 is only available from meat, and is particularly needed by vegetarian athletes.

    One study's findings suggested that vitamin B12 metabolism may be altered in ultra-endurance runners. [36]

    The Diet for Diabetes is straightforward yet you need to know how to control the carbohydrates. How do you know what foods to eat? Maybe you like rice or pasta or grits or other carb foods that need insulin to process these foods.How much of the carbohydrate or carb (CHO) foods can I eat? Well that depends if you would need to lose weight, gain weight or maintain your weight.I think the most prudent way to eat foods you really enjoy and at the same time not putting too much strain on the pancreas to spit out insulin, is to eat in moderation. Type 2 Diabetes Diet or Diabetes 2 diet is basically the diet I am referring to.What I mean by moderation is using the Visual Plate Technique. This is one way of calculating your intake, as well as how much carbs or carb foods you include with your meal.So what does the Visual Plate Technique mean. For a Type 2 Diabetes Diet means that you look at your plate with your foodstuff in it. If all you see is rice, or grits or sweet foods as the greater piece of your plate, then you are way off base. Diabetes 2 diet contain a green leafy vegetable or salad, Protein foodstuff (eggs , meat, fish, cheese) and a smaller portion of carbohydrate vegetables or rice, pasta or whatever other carbs.Since I work as a visiting nurse, I try to explain to the patients that you don't have to go to extremes. Diets for Diabetes doesn't matter what culture and foods you like and that tastes great. It matters that you somewhat control your carbohydrate vegetables (peas, carrots, corn, peas, potatoes) and your CHO foods (rice, pasta, and other carb

    Can Humans Replace God with Technology?
    It seems that human technology in robotics, computers, NanoTech and BioTech are coming together to make the species their own god. Able to extend life, modify DNA and cure any known disease. Is it true? Indeed all of it appears to be true in the very new future. But not so fast, as there are many who decry this forward progress of mankind. Most religious sects are quite concerned about this and generally will state; “You cannot replace God!”Many non-religious followers involved in these technologies say why not to that question. Recently a think tanker of a non-religious background said this in debate of the comment that you cannot replace God and he stated:“Why not? I remember once I was on a Football Team and had to pick sports otherwise suffer disqualification of one of the teams. So I left the team. I was replaced. Once in a school play, I had a conflict with student government obligations and a few invitational track meets. They replaced me. You see replacing a character in literature or a story is simple really. You can do it by changing Santa Clause to some other name. If you re-tell a story over generations you can modify it to fit your needs. You can go from one god to many gods to one god again? Give it say 8,000 years and mix in a few burned down libraries, some mixed cultures and a few leaders who need to modify things to stay in power.”So, it is safe to say that such debates will rage on as they have in the past.
