    So you have decided to start an online business. You have read a bunch of ebooks, and thoroughly studied and researched starting an online business. Even though you went through all the right steps, you missed some extremely major steps that I would like to discuss with you today.

    Tip # 1 – Understand your customer

    Do you really understand your customer? Most people start a business from their own frame of mind. They start a business thinking, I want to make money, I want to pay off these bills, I want to buy a new car or I want to go on vacation. You see, you start the business from what you want rather than what the customer wants. So above all else, understand that your customer or the person that comes to your website is missing something in their life and wants to find it. They have an emptiness in their life and think that by coming to your website, they might be able to fill that emptiness. So you the business owner must change your mindset and get yourself out of the way and put the needs, wants and desires of your customer at the forefront of your business.

    Tip # 2 – You must be the Leader

    There is an old adage that says that “you can lead the horse to water, but you can’t make them drink”. In your world of building an online business, I would like to stress that this is your job. It is not only to lead your customer to the “water” but in your leading you must understand that they will “drink” the water. As you build your online business, everything that you do must be based on the fact that you understand that your customer is missing something in their life, and you are there to bring them that something that they are missing. As they discover that you have what they are missing, they will “drink the water”.

    Tip # 3 – You are the Relationship Builder

    As you bring that customer to the “water”, you have developed a relationship with that customer. It is your job to keep that customer and continue to provide that customer with the things that he is missing in his life. Remember in Tip # 1 we talked about understanding the customer. You must remember that once the emptiness has been filled, it is human nature for that emptiness to return. Think about that. A lot of women love to buy shoes and purses. If a woman goes to the store to buy a pair of shoes and walks out of the store with that pair of shoes, she has just filled that emptiness. Will that emptiness be filled permanently? If you know what your customer wants, and can continually provide them with what they want by building a relationship with them, your business will be extremely successful.
